Story Behind Shivratri

There are many versions associated with the significance of this festival.

according to that, shiva performed the heavenly dance of creation, preservation & destruction on this day. it is believed that lord shiva got married to Goddess Parvati on this day. it is also believed that lord shiva drunk or gulped a poison named “Hala Hala” produced from Samudra Manthan to save the world. after that, his neck turned blue. so shiva is also called “Neel Kanth”. it is believed in Hinduism that the ” Neelkanth Mahadev Temple” which is now in Uttarakhand, India is the place where all the incidents took place.
